The wait is over for the 10.1 inch 4G Samsung Galaxy Tab, well almost that is. Pre-orders for the world’s thinnest touchscreen tablet will begin June 8th. You could say Samsung is back in the tablet computer race, then again they never really left.
Samsung’s new tablet will be quite a step up from their original 7 inch version. One of the upgrades include the Android Honeycomb 3.1 OS. This means users will be able to enjoy customized TouchWiz widgets. Also, you’ll be able to access and rent Movies from the Android Market at super fast 4G speeds, which I’ll get to next.

You’ll be able to connect through Verizon’s 4G LTE network with the new 10.1 inch Galaxy Tab. This is faster than any other network in America, meaning your downloads will be just like the wind even when it comes to full-length movies. I know it was many moons ago but I can remember waiting for what seemed like forever trying to download a small 1MB file on my 28.8 modem way back in the day. It’s amazing how far we have come.

Ok, back on topic here. The newest Galaxy Tab model will come in two different colors including glossy white and metallic gray. You’ll also be able to choose from 16GB and 32GB versions. There will be no obligation to sign a contract with any carrier including Verizon and there will also be a Wi-Fi only model available. We all enjoy having different options, and Samsung Mobile is obviously well aware of that.
Other upgraded specs include a higher screen resolution which will be 1280×800 in comparison to 1024×600 resolution for their original 7 inch model. The display itself will be HD using a WXGA wide screen aspect ratio. The Wi-Fi only version is very slim at only 8.6 millimeters which officially makes it the thinnest tablet on the market anywhere in the world. Quite impressive you have to admit. Instead of only one camera there will be two. This includes a 3MP rear-facing camera and a 2MP camera in the front.
So you’re likely wondering what price range we’re dealing with here. Well, you’ll be glad to know the soon to be launched 10.1 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab will start at only $499 for 16GB Wi-Fi only models and 32GB Wi-Fi only models will start at $599 which is more than a fair price.
As mentioned above you can pre-order your new Samsung tablet on June 8th or wait until June 17th and buy it directly at the following locations:
- Amazon.com
- Best Buy
- Tiger Direct
- Fry’s Electronics
- Micro Center
- Newegg
Final Thoughts
If you were thinking about going out this week and purchasing a brand new touchscreen tablet you might just want to wait a few days. If you decide to go with the new Honeycomb 3.1 powered Samsung Galaxy Tab I’m sure it will be well worth the wait. It’s arriving just in time and could make for a very thoughtful Father’s Day gift as well. I’m sure your dad would love such a gift. Either way Samsung Mobile has really stepped up to the plate here and not just hit a home run but smashed it out of the park if you ask me.
