You’ve seen it countless times in movies, TV shows and have probably experienced this first hand yourself; The end of class is approaching and before the bell even rings students are no longer paying attention to the teacher, their backpacks are filled up and zipped as they anxiously wait for the bell to ring so they can make a dash for the door at the exact moment class has concluded and heaven forbid not a second later.
Trekkers, trekkies, sci-fi geeks, most of us computer types have some form of “space nerd” hidden deep within us, or, maybe not so deep. Like others, I would love to see Gene Roddenberry’s vision of the future come true. Mankind would have overcome his warring ways and we’d all be mature enough to put our differences behind us. But the older I get, the more I begin to doubt the feasibility of this future. I’m sure that even now some testosterone-fueled teen is beating the tar out of some dude for having looked at his girlfriend.
Sci-fi movies; wondrous visions of the future from Eden to dystopia
We’ve all seen the scenes, high tech classrooms in idyllic settings and students mindfully tapping away at some form of computer or electronic tablet. Yes sir, tomorrow’s classrooms will make NASA’s mission control center look like a student film. Perhaps the only thing that can rival tomorrow’s classroom is tomorrow’s high tech police crime lab; well… at least on TV.
